MARQUETTE, Mich.—The musical “Les Miserables,” starring former Broadway actor and NMU Professor Paul Truckey as Jean Valjean, will be among the featured productions at Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre.
The season opens with “The Second City Goes to College/Happily Ever After” Wednesday, Sept. 11, through Saturday, Sept. 14.
The new production of Boublil and Schönberg’s “Les Miserables” will be performed Wednesday, Nov. 13, through Saturday, Nov. 16. Truckey has performed in the Broadway and touring companies of the show, which is based on the novel by Victor Hugo.
A Shakespeare play, “The Comedy of Errors,” kicks off the winter semester with a Tuesday-Saturday run over two weeks—Feb. 11-15 and 18-22. This play will be staged in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre.
“She Kills Monsters,” about a woman who discovers her deceased sister’s Dungeons and Dragons notebook and is transported on a journey to save her sister’s soul, will run Wednesday, April 16, through Saturday, April 19, in Forest Roberts Theatre.
Show times are at 7:30 p.m., with additional 1 p.m. Saturday matinees for most mainstage offerings.
Studio productions this season and their respective dates are (all in Forest Roberts Theatre unless otherwise noted): “A Kind of Alaska,” Oct. 18-19 in the Black Box Theatre; Haunted Theatre, Oct. 24-26; “The 12 Dates of Christmas,” Dec. 5-6 in the Black Box Theatre; Santaland Diaries, Dec. 20-21 in the Black Box Theatre; “An American in Paris,” Feb. 7-8; and the NMU Dance Concert held at the end of each semester, Dec. 7 and April 26.
