Cleveland-Cliffs' Coalwood History Discussed

Northern Michigan University's final Evening at the Archives event of the academic year will feature a presentation titled "Cordwood at Coalwood: Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company's Secondary Industrial Ventures." Coalwood, located about 10 miles south of Munising, was a large cordwood camp that supplied fuel for the Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company's nearby furnaces.

Aaron Howe, a graduate student in anthropology at Western Michigan University and last year’s recipient of the Grace H. Magnaghi Visiting Research Grant, will present the results of his research on the topic. His talk begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in room 126 of the NMU Learning Resources Center. It is free and open to the public.
