VERMICOMPOSTING WORKSHOP OFFERED

A Northern Center for Lifelong Learning workshop will focus on vermicomposting: using worms to turn organic waste into high-quality compost. The program is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 11, in the Peter White Public Library community room.

The workshop will begin with an introduction by Linda O’Brien and Tiffany Rantanen, Moosewood Nature Center board volunteers. They will discuss the advantages of vermicomposting, the species of worms required—different than those found in ordinary soil, how to set up a bin and how to use food scraps to create a nutrient-rich organic fertilizer and soil conditioner. A hands-on activity will follow. Participants will learn how to maintain a bin and how to harvest and use the worm castings.

The cost of the program is a donation to the Moosewood Nature Center. Advance registration is requested by July 9. Contact Marge Forslin at 869-4791.
