NMU STUDENTS COMPETE AT MICHIGAN NATS

                              

            Five Northern Michigan University vocal students of professor Robert Engelhart competed at annual auditions sponsored by that National Association of Teachers of Singing. NMU junior Kurt Hauswirth of Rudyard won second place honors in the junior men category. 

            The event at Western Michigan University drew more than 300 singers from throughout the state. Students were ranked by panels of collegiate voice teachers against other students of their own gender and age.

            In addition to Hauswirth, the following music education majors at NMU competed in the event:

            Michigan

            Chassell: Danielle Teter, sophomore

            Escanaba: Rachel Maki, sophomore

            Gwinn: Emily Strazzinski, senior

            Wisconsin

            Ashland: Zachary Beeksma, sophomore.
