The Northern Michigan University Volunteer Center is coordinating a bones marrow registration drive from 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, in the lower level of the Learning Resources Center on the NMU campus. At the registration, participants will be asked to fill out a personal health form and to give two small blood samples. To be place on the National Marrow Donor Program registry, a potential donor must be between 18-60 years old, in good health and have no personal history of cancer, heart disease, insulin dependent diabetes or autoimmune diseases. Once placed on the registry, a person never needs to re-register. Over the past five years, at least two persons have been matched as bone marrow donors through NMU bone marrow registration events.
