The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a tour of the Presque Isle Power Plant from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 14. The Presque Isle Power Plant is the fourth largest power plant in the WE Energies system and has a total net generating capacity of 617 megawatts. It has nine generating units that burn two different types of coal and #2 fuel oil for diesel generators and boiler startup. About 243,000 gallons of water from Lake Superior are used every minute to convert the exhaust steam from the turbines back into water for reuse. Tour participants should be prepared to wear hardhats, safety glasses and earplugs provided by WE Energies. No children under fifth grade and no picture taking are allowed. The cost for the tour is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. For more information or to register, contact class liaison Lucille Scotti at 906-249-3640 before Wednesday, June 11.
