Northern Michigan University will host a free pre-college enrichment program for eighth and ninth graders from Wells Township School, Polaris/North Star Academy and the Gwinn Middle and High Schools.

The week-long residential camp is scheduled June 22-28. It is designed to get students thinking about college and to help them realize how accessible higher education is for them. This summer’s program will focus on “fine arts” activities, such as broadcasting and photography. Life skills, leadership and physical fitness will also be included.

Participants will stay in an NMU residence hall and their meals and snacks will be provided. NMU students will serve as round-the-clock chaperones.

GEAR UP, or gaining early access and readiness for undergraduate programs, is a federal program supported by the King-Chavez-Parks Initiative. Applications are available online or from school guidance counselors.  The registration deadline is June 13.
