The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a video presentation about the building of the St. Louis Arch. Roger Corinth, retired project engineer of Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Co., will answer questions about the St. Louis Arch following the video. The presentation will run from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 8, in room 101-B of the Superior Dome at Northern Michigan University. In the 1800s, St. Louis was considered “The Gateway to the West.” The St. Louis arch’s official name, the “Jefferson National Expansion Monument,” commemorates Jefferson’s part in the Louisiana Purchase. In the early 1960s, the structural design, fabrication and erection of the arch were recognized as significant accomplishments. The cost of the presentation is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. To register, contact class liaison Cliff Stammer at 906-228-9897 before Monday, May 5.
