Aaron Pairolero of Gladstone, Mich. was the student speaker at Northern Michigan University’s spring commencement. The ceremony was held on Saturday, May 3, at the Superior Dome.

Pairolero graduated with a major in social studies/elementary education and three minors: speech communication, science education and outdoor recreation. He said a quote by a former professor – “You’re not done; you’re ready” – inspired him over recent years and became the basis of his commencement speech.

“I believe those words apply to all of us on our graduation day,” Pairolero said. “We are not done learning and growing; we are ready to have new teachers. Graduation is the day we must start to apply our education to continue getting one. Therefore, we are not done, but we are ready.”

While attending NMU, Pairolero relied on his oral communication skills in other capacities. He was as a student speaker for the “Connect to NMU” program, a leader of a community youth group and a student teacher for a fifth-grade class. He also served as a student manager in the Outdoor Recreation and Challenge Program.
