FORMER NMU VISITING PROFESSOR GIVES BOOK READING

MARQUETTE – Rebecca Johns, a former visiting professor at Northern Michigan University, will read from her recently published book Icebergs: A Novel at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library.

A 1993 graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism and 2003 graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Johns has contributed to publications such as American Baby, Bride’s and Cosmopolitan.

Icebergs is Johns’ first novel, published in April by Bloomsbury USA. It has won the Michener-Copernicus Society of America Award and is also a Book of the Month Club selection. The novel begins with a plane crash on Newfoundland’s Labrador coast and broadens into a multigenerational story of love, war and fate. Johns was inspired by her grandfather’s real-life plane crash in Labrador in 1944.

This free event is open to the general public. Copies of the book will be available for purchase. For more information, contact Austin Hummell at 227-1642.
