NMU STUDENTS ELECTED TO STUDENT GOVERNMENT ORGANIZATION

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University seniors Erik Maillard from Livonia, Mich., and Erika Jensen from Rockford, Mich., have been elected to lead the Associated Students of Northern Michigan University (ASNMU) student government organization for the 2006-07 academic year.

Maillard, an earth science major, was elected president. He ran against one other candidate and won by 612 votes. Environmental science major Jensen faced two challengers for the vice-president position and won by 552 votes. Both students also received ASNMU Leadership Recognition Awards at an April 20 banquet at NMU.

ASNMU serves as the official voice of NMU students. It reports regularly to the NMU Board of Trustees about student needs and issues, and consists of 28 elected members who sit on various university committees.
