BASAL NAMED NMU STUDENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR

MARQUETTE – Julee Basal of Marquette has been named the Northern Michigan University Student Employee of the Year for 2006. Her selection coincides with National Student Employment Week April 9-15.

Basal, a first year master’s candidate in public management, has been the media relations coordinator for the United States Olympic Education Center for one year. She is responsible for all of the public relations activities regarding the athletes and programs. She also played a major role in marketing, promoting and organizing the 2006 U.S. Short Track Speedskating Championships in December.

“I didn't even know I had been nominated, so it was a wonderful surprise,” she said. “The people at the USOEC have touched my life in such special ways. It's humbling to know they think I make a difference."

Basal was nominated for the award by Jeff Kleinschmidt, USOEC director.

“I have had the pleasure of working with many competent students over the past 20 years, and I would place Julee at the top of the list,” he said. “She is an exceptionally hardworking and dedicated employee who is very well deserving of this honor.”
