MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a tour of the Potlatch lumber mill in Gwinn from 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, March 28. Participants should either meet at lot 58 of Berry Events Center or at Jack’s IGA in Harvey, whichever is closer. If enrollment warrants, another tour will be held on Thursday, March 30.

The mill manufactures jack pine and red pine studs as well as wood chips for a local paper company. It was constructed by Holli Forest Products Co. in the mid-90s and acquired by Louisiana Pacific Corp. in 2000. In May of 2005, Potlatch Corp. purchased the mill. Gerry Ginter will lead the tour.

The cost is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. Since the tour will involve catwalks and stairs, slacks are preferred for women. No open-toed shoes are allowed. The registration deadline is Friday, March 24, and there is a class size limit of 15. To register, contact the NCLL office at 227-2979. For more information, contact the class liaison at 249-3640.
