MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a tour of The Reader Sugarbush sometime in late March or early April, depending on when the maple sap is running. Participants are asked to register in advance by March 17, and they will be contacted as to the exact time and date of the event.
Richard Reader will lead a tour of his 700-tap maple syrup operation that uses both tubing and buckets to collect sap. The sap is then run to a commercial evaporator. The amount of maple syrup that results depends on the sap’s sugar content. Tour participants should dress warmly and wear boots due to muddy ground.
The cost is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. To register, contact the NCLL office at 227-2979. For more information, contact the class liaison at 249-3640.
