MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University’s DeVos Art Museum will present an exhibition titled “Bed as Autobiography: Paintings by John Ransom Phillips” March 15-April 13. There will be a reception from 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 17.
The exhibit depicts the journey of all the beds one has throughout her or his lifetime, beginning with the embryonic sac and ending with the casket. It depicts the subject of one’s bed as a realm where key human rites of passage take place, and also as a place of privacy, comfort, and containment where everyone is most fully and honestly themselves.
“Bed as Autobiography” was organized by Katharine T. Carter and Associates. Regular museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, contact 227-1481.
