NCLL PRESENTS FOLK DANCING CLASSES

MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present three classes titled “Folk Dancing: From Balkan Countries, Israel and Others.” They will be held from 1-3 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 9, 16 and 23, at First Presbyterian Church in Marquette. The classes will meet in the church’s downstairs social room; participants are asked to use the Bluff Street entrance.

Bob Railey and members of the Marquette Folk Dancers will demonstrate simple dances in a large, single circle. Partners are not needed. The steps that will be taught are common and shared by several dances from different countries. Railey will teach more difficult dances towards the end of the classes to those who are able and interested. Smooth-soled shoes are recommended, but any type of sport shoe will work. Participants should dress as they would for any form of exercise; shorts are appropriate.

The cost is $12 for NCLL members and $21 for nonmembers. There is a class size limit of 30, and the registration deadline is Jan. 8. To register, contact the NCLL office at 227-2979. For more information, contact the class liaison at 249-3229.
