MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will host a concert featuring the university and madrigal choirs, along with the NMU orchestra, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, in Reynolds Recital Hall. The choirs are under the direction of Rob Engelhart, and the orchestra is directed by Barbara Rhyneer. Both are music professors at NMU.
The highlight of the concert will be “Schlittenfahrt,” by Leopold Mozart. “We chose this song for its strings, percussion, and C trumpet; a combination not often heard,” said Rhyneer. “It also has sleigh bells in it, which adds a hint of Christmas to the concert. It makes you feel like you’re riding along in a carriage in the 1800s.” The piece will be conducted by Travis Burleson, an NMU senior and orchestra practicum student.
This free event is open to the public. For more information, contact Engelhart at 227-1038 or Rhyneer at 227-2309.
