MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning will present a tour of a five-star energy home from 8:30 a.m.-noon Wednesday, Dec. 7, in Deerton. Participants will meet at Jack’s IGA in Harvey and travel the rest of the way together. They should wear weather-appropriate clothing.
The home, also called the Northern Options Temporary Energy Center, is owned by Christine and Sam Simonetta. It was awarded a Five-Star Home Grant from the State of Michigan Energy Office in 2003. The tour will include the innovative features that give the home its distinguished five-star rating, including a wind turbine from Scotland. Alternative energy sources, such as passive solar power, will also be discussed.
The registration deadline is Dec. 2. The cost is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. The class size limit is 12, but another class will be held at the same time on Dec. 8 if there is enough enrollment. To register or for more information, contact 228-9190.
