MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in Reynolds Recital Hall.
The concert will include “Symphony No. 29” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the “Holburg Suite” by Edvard Grieg, and “Concerto Grosso” by Ernest Bloch.
“I chose these pieces to highlight the sounds of the violin, viola, cello and bass; we’re playing mostly string pieces this semester,” said Barbara Rhyneer, director of the orchestra and an assistant music professor at NMU. “I chose the Bloch and Grieg pieces because they contrast each other; the Bloch has a very heavy, weighty string sound, and the Grieg offers a lighter sound. The Mozart piece can be heard in the movie ‘Amadeus.’ It’s been great getting to work with this music as well as the students who will be performing it.”
This free event is open to the general public. For more information, contact Rhyneer at 227-2309.
