MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will host a poetry reading by Patrick O’Neill, a poet and teacher from Gogebic Community College. His presentation is scheduled at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19, in the Huron Room of the University Center.

O’Neill is originally from downstate Michigan. He has been living and teaching in the Upper Peninsula for several years.  He has just released his third book of poetry titled Root Zone.  His others, Poems of the Possum and When Winter Comes to the Copper Country, will be available for purchase after the reading.  His poetry deals with the nature, people and places of the U.P.

“O’Neill was my teacher when I attended Gogebic, and he had a major impact on me,” said Beth Grbavcich, a graduate teaching assistant in the English department at NMU.  “He’s a phenomenal teacher, writer and character.  He’s also a wonderful speaker, which is what prompted me to invite him here.”

This free event is open to the public.  For more information, contact Grbavcich at 227-2759.
