MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will host a biology seminar on freshwater crabs delivered by Jonelle Thompson, an NMU graduate and candidate for the master’s program. She will present “A Molecular Phylogenetic Analysis of the Malagasy Freshwater Crab Genus Hydrothelphusa H. Milne Edwards, 1872, with Biogeographical Implications for the Group” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in the New Science Facility room 2202.

Phylogenetics refers to the taxonomical classification of organisms based on how closely they’re related in terms of evolutionary differences. Thompson will discuss this concept as it relates to Malagasy freshwater crabs, which are native to Madagascar.

The general public is invited to this free event. It is sponsored by the biology department.  For more information, contact 227-2310.
