MARQUETTE – A dinner in celebration of Latino Heritage Month will be held at Northern Michigan University at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 in the Erie/Huron Room of the University Center.  A social hour will begin at 4 p.m.

            Author and producer Manny Monterrey will deliver a keynote speech. Monterrey is the originator and executive producer of “Americanos: Latino Life in the United States;” a project released in 1999 and 2000 that includes a book and movie of the same title, which earned Monterrey a Sundance Film Festival Award. From 1999 through 2005, Monterrey also had a traveling Smithsonian Institution photo exhibition that has been documented as the largest photo exhibition ever mounted by the institution.  Monterrey is currently co-authoring a book with his children titled Jenny and the Rocking Chair.”
