AN EVENING WITH GILBERT AND SULLIVAN AT NMU

MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University music department and The Superior Light Opera Association will present “Here’s A-How-De-Do-Two: An Evening with Gilbert and Sullivan” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, in Reynolds Recital Hall.

A pre-concert social hour will begin at 6:15, with hors d’oeuvres, wines and a cash bar served in the mezzanine of the adjacent Student Service Center.  Entertainment will be provided by the NMU Jazz Combo. Diners will then move to the recital hall for an evening of humorous selections from the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, performed by Marquette singers.  Proceeds from the evening will be used to assist with the music department’s annual opera production.

“Last year’s inaugural dinner and concert, which was held in the University Center, was a great success,” said Robert Engelhart, an NMU music professor.  “Having this year’s program in the new recital hall will make things even more exciting.  It’s a fabulous place to hear great music, and I’m assured that the food is going to be terrific, too.”

Tickets for the social hour and concert are $25 and must be purchased by Oct. 6.  Tickets for the concert only are available for $15 and, because of limited seating, should also be purchased ahead of time. Ticket outlets include the Forest Roberts Theatre, Superior Dome, and Willy’s Snak Shak.  They are also available online at www.nmu.edu/tickets.

The general public is invited to this event.  For more information, contact Engelhart at 227-1038.
