MARQUETTE – Nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter Jason Mraz will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, at the Northern Michigan University Berry Events Center, with special guest Raul Midón.

A native of Mechanicsville, Va., Mraz has had a lifelong passion for music.  He spent a brief period studying theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in 1995, but returned to Virginia to concentrate on his guitar and songwriting skills.  In 1999, Mraz moved to San Diego and immediately found a home in the city’s coffeehouse acoustic scene.  He soon earned local attention and the beginnings of a fan following.

After releasing two self-issued CDs that were recorded live at Java Joe’s coffeehouse, Mraz signed on with Elektra Records and released “Waiting for My Rocket to Come” in 2002, which went platinum.  He performed more than 260 shows the next year, performing with Coldplay, Bob Dylan, Dave Matthews Band, Jewel and David Gray, among others.  In 2005, Mraz’s second album, “Mr. A-Z,” was released.  Its first single, “Wordplay,” has received positive attention from both fans and critics.

Advance tickets are available at EZ Ticket outlets for $18 for NMU students with ID and $22 for the general public. On the day of the show, ticket prices will be $20 for students and $24 for the public.  For more information, contact Northern Arts and Entertainment at 227-2447.
