MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning is offering a fall colors tour of the eastern Upper Peninsula Thursday, September 29. The deluxe van will leave at 7 a.m. from the Westwood Mall by Blockbuster Video, and at 7:15 a.m. from Jack’s IGA in Harvey. The van will return to the IGA at 7:15 p.m. and the Westwood Mall at 7:30 p.m.
Tour guide Fred Huffman will talk about the history of the area and several other attractions on the tour. The tour will visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, where participants will have the opportunity to tour the museum, visit the Whitefish Point Light Station and watch freighters up close from the deck overlooking the shipping channel. There will also be a chance to hike into the Upper Tahquamenon Falls with park interpreter Bob Wild, followed by a dutch-treat lunch at the wonderful Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub. The group will not stop for dinner; participants are encouraged to bring snacks. Ice water, cups and napkins will be provided.
The cost of the tour is $30 for NCLL members and $35 for nonmbers. It includes deluxe van transportation and admission to the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum, the Whitefish Point Light Station and the Tahquamenon Falls State Park. The tour is limited to 13 participants. If enrollment warrants, a second tour will be given Friday, Sept. 30. The deadline for registration is Monday, Sept. 19.
