MARQUETTE – In conjunction with the 2005-2006 colloquia series sponsored by the psychology department, Northern Michigan University will host a presentation titled “Don’t Count Me Out: Older Children with Autism Can Learn, Too!” from 3:10-4:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in Gries Hall.
The purpose of this discussion is to address how interventions with older autistic children can be successful, as most of the current research is directed toward younger children. Presenters will be Morten and Kristi Haugland, who graduated from NMU with bachelor’s degrees in psychology in 1994 and 1999, respectively. They will discuss direct instruction, fluency-based instruction, ABA/DTT and computer based instruction, as well as the teaching of language and academic skills to older children with autism.
The public is invited to attend this free event. For more information, contact the psychology department at 227-2935.
