MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University and its clerical-technical union have reached a tentative agreement on a three-year contract.
The membership of the UAW Local 1950 voted 92 to 53 to accept the proposed contract. The union’s current three-year contract expired June 30.
The new agreement provides a 20 cents-per-hour raise for the 169 union members in the first year of the contract and a 2.25 percent raise in the second and third years.
"We are pleased we were able to come to an agreement. It has been difficult negotiating with the state of the budget so uncertain, but we feel we have reached a fair contract for the hard-working and dedicated NMU clerical/technical employees," said Sue Tollefson, president of UAW Local 1950.
The agreement will be brought to the NMU Board of Trustees at its Oct. 6-7 meetings.
