MARQUETTE – The Northern Center for Lifelong Learning is offering a look at ferns, club mosses and horsetails in the Marquette area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, meeting in the Berry Events Center parking lot.

            There are about 14 fern, five horsetail and five club moss species that can be found in the Marquette area. In the morning, participants will look at herbarium specimens, learn some identification tips and then explore a variety of nearby habitats to locate the plants in their natural state. After lunch, the group will go to Presque Isle Park to look at plants.

            Participants should bring a sack lunch, a hand lens to aid in identifying plants and a clip board for notes. Insect repellant is recommended.

            The cost to participate in this event is $4 for NCLL members and $7 for nonmembers. Class size is limited to 12, and the deadline for registration is Friday, August 12. To register or for more information call 906-249-3229.
