FINN FEST JAZZ OPPORTUNITY AT LANDMARK

MARQUETTE – Finn Grand Fest 2005 and the Upper Peninsula community will have the opportunity to experience jazz with a Finnish flair when Finnish composer Jukka Linkola teams up with local musicians for a 10 p.m. performance Saturday, Aug. 13, in the Harbor Room of Marquette’s Landmark Inn.

The Finn Grand Fest 2005 is taking place in Marquette from Wednesday through Sunday, Aug. 10-14.  Linkola is attending the festival to conduct the premiere of his bass concerto at Thursday’s gala concert.  However, Linkola is also an accomplished jazz pianist and composer.

Mark Flaherty, jazz trumpeter and director of the Northern Michigan University jazz band, along other local jazz musicians will join Linkola for the impromptu jam session.  Among things they will be playing are some of Linkola’s jazz compositions.

A cover charge of $10 will be charged at the door.  Drinks and light food will be available for purchase.
