AUTHOR STEFANIAK TO GIVE FICTION READING

          MARQUETTE – Writer Mary Helen Stefaniak will perform a reading of fiction at 7 p.m., Wednesday (July 20) at the Federated Women’s Clubhouse. 

          Stefaniak is the author of Self Storage, a collection of short stories that won the Minnesota Voices Award, and Turk My Mother, a novel.  Her fiction and essays have appeared in many publications, including New Stories from the South, In the Middle West, and A Different Plain.

          She also received the Banta Award in 1998 and has been short listed for the O’Henry Award.  

           A graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, Stefaniak is a contributing editor to the Iowa Review, and director of the creative writing program at Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.

          The free reading is sponsored by Northern Michigan University’s Master’s of Fine Arts (MFA) program in creative writing, the English Department and Passages North Literary Magazine.  For more information, call 906-228-4628.
