MISS MICHIGAN SLATED TO TAKE PART IN FINN GRAND FEST'S SAUNA

Marquette, MI – Not only are Finn Grand Fest 2005 organizers planning on toppling the record for the world’s largest sauna during the four-day festival, but they’re doing it with style. Miss Michigan USA, Crystal Hayes, will be joining the festivities and co-hosting the sauna with WLUC-TV6’s Finland Calling host, Carl Pellonpaa.  Hayes, who hails from Rock, MI and has Finnish blood thanks to her maternal grandmother, will welcome guests to the official world record setting performance scheduled for August 13 at 1 pm at the jumbo sauna behind the Superior Dome.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the many Finnish visitors who will be visiting the area,” said Hayes, “I’ve never attended a Finn Fest or Grand Fest before.”

Hayes, who also was a top 15 finalist in the Miss USA contest, knows how to keep cool under pressure. Her skills will be put to the test as the temperatures in the sauna may hit 160 degrees. Hayes explains, “We’re building a sauna at home so this will be a test for me.”

Pellonpaa, a host of WLUC-TV6’s Finland Calling Show for the past 43 years, teasingly added, “I hope she scrubs my back as that is the authentic Finnish custom in the sauna. I look forward to the honor of co-hosting with such an accomplished young woman.”
