MARQUETTE, Mich. – Rehearsals by the Marquette Choral Society begin on Monday, July 18 at 7:00 pm for participation in the Finn Grand Fest 2005 Gala Festival Concert. The chorus will rehearse on four successive Monday evenings as they prepare to sing a work by a Finnish composer that had its premiere in Marquette in 1996. All present and former Choral Society members are invited to participate, as are others from the area who enjoy singing. They will be preparing the cantata, “Main Paras Vaif” (Finglish for “My Best Wife”) by Atso Almila. The work will be part of a concert to be held in Lakeview Arena on Thursday, August 11, during Finn Grand Fest 2005.

The Choral Society will also be preparing to participate in the Finn Grand Fest 2005 Opening Ceremony on Wednesday, August 10. The rehearsals will be in the Choral Room of the Thomas Fine Arts Building at Northern Michigan University where the group normally rehearses. Because the Choral Society’s regular director, Dr. Floyd Slotterback, is starting a sabbatical leave, Sheila Grazulis, a music teacher in the Ishpeming schools, will direct the group for these rehearsals.
