MARQUETTE – The music department of Northern Michigan University invites students and community members with an interest in drumming to participate in a clinic and concert being offered by a master tabla drummer from India. It is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, in the Thomas Fine Arts building room B100.
Sandip Burman will be coming to Northern on his tour of United States universities to help educate American drummers on the music of India. He has played with acts such as Steve Smith from Journey, Randy Brecker from the Brecker Brothers, and Bela Fleck.
The clinic is open to the public, but NMU professor Jim Strain asks that he be contacted to make sure there is space available. He can be reached at 906-227-2574 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Broadcasters: Tabla is pronounced TUH-bla.
