MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University Native American Student Association will be holding its second annual Anishinaabe Food Tasting Social at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10 at the Jacobetti Center at NMU. The event is part of the second annual “Indigenous Insights” series, which features a variety of programs that celebrate Native American culture and heritage.
The menu will consist of traditional foods such as venison, whitefish, wild rice and acorn squash as well as contemporary favorites such as fry bread and apple crisp. A group of hand drum singers, Ditibaatsin, will perform throughout the dinner.
Tickets for the event must be purchased by Friday, Nov. 8, and are sold at the Diversity Student Services Office and the Center for Native American Studies at NMU. The cost of tickets is $5 for NMU students with I.D., $10 for the general public and $15 per couple. Family and group rates may be negotiable.
