CHUCHO VALDEZ TO PERFORM AT KAUFMAN AUDITORIUM

            MARQUETTE – Jesus “Chucho” Valdéz and his Cuban Jazz Quartet will perform at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at the Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette. The performance is the next event in the Northern Michigan University Performing Art Series for 2002-2003.

            Valdéz and his quartet will also be joined by his sister Mayra Caridad as vocalist. The quartet consists of piano, bass, congas, and drums.

            Valdéz is a world renowned pianist, composer and band leader. His music shows the African, Spanish and U.S. influences in jazz. His most recent CD is “Briyumba Palo Congo” (Religion of the Congo).

Tickets are available at the Superior Dome, the University Center Snak Shak, Forest Roberts Theatre, at Kaufman Auditorium and online at www.nmu.edu/tickets. Advance tickets are $6 for all students, $13 for NMU faculty and staff and $14 for general admission. Tickets at the door are $8 for all students, $15 for NMU faculty and staff and $16 for general admission.
