MARQUETTE – Kara Cox, an elementary education senior from Champion, is the recipient of the Northern Michigan University Student Employee of the Year award.
Cox is an orientation program assistant and in the academic and career advisement center. She was nominated by Kim Rotundo, the director of the program. Cox was chosen from 15 nominated students. Her selection made her eligible for the state award, which went to a student from another Michigan university.
“I cannot think of anyone I’ve ever worked with who is more deserving of recognition than Kara Cox,” Rotundo said. “Her dedication to and knowledge of the program is amazing and has proven to be critical to the success of the program.”
The National Student Employment Association sponsors the national program. The award is determined based upon the following criteria: reliability, quality of work, initiative, professionalism and uniqueness of contribution. This was Northern’s first year of participation.
Cox will receive a check for $25, a $25 gift certificate to the local restaurant of her choice and a recognition plaque. She and the other nominees will be honored at an April 15 luncheon sponsored by the JOBSearch Center.
