MARQUETTE – The DeVos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University will showcase wood sculptures in its next featured exhibit, titled "Out of the Woods." An opening reception will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, June 17. The exhibit will run through Sunday, July 24.

Local artists featured include NMU art and design professor William Leete and NMU alumni Tom Ex and Mike Irolla. The exhibit also features the national and international talents of Mark Lindquist, Geanne Drevas, Robyn Horn, George Peterson, Todd Hoyer and Robin Wood.

The exhibit is in collaboration with the Marquette County Historical Society Museum exhibit "Into the Woods," which looks at logging and its effect on the history of the Upper Peninsula.

"It’s a nice collaboration because we are approaching the same general topic from two totally different perspectives," said Wayne Francis, DeVos Art Museum director. "The wood objects that will be on display include some functional pieces and others that are purely sculptural."

The DeVos Art Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
