MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University chemistry department presented its annual student awards for the academic year that ended May 6. The four NMU students honored and their respective awards are as follows:
Jeff Szymanski from Frankenmuth, Mich., received the Lucian F. Hunt Award. This award is given to a graduating senior who has academic excellence, has done significant undergraduate chemistry research, and shows commitment to a career in chemistry or biochemistry research.
Alex Buck, a senior from Marquette, Mich., was the recipient of the Outstanding Organic Chemistry Student Award. This award is given to the student with the highest overall grades in courses CH321 and CH322 for the academic year.
Jessica DePew, a junior from White Hall, Ark., received the Outstanding Freshman Chemistry Award. This award is given to the first-year chemistry student with the highest grades in chemistry courses.Keriann Oertell, a senior from Arcadia, Calif., received the Analytical Chemistry Award. This award is given to the student with the highest grades in courses CH241 and CH242 for the academic year.
