SEABORG CENTER OFFERS SUMMER COLLEGE FOR KIDS

            MARQUETTE – Enrollment is under way for the College for Kids summer program at the Northern Michigan University Seaborg Center.  The following week-long sessions will fill on a first-come, first-served basis, and cost $50 each:

June 20-24

“Engineering” from 1-4 p.m. for grades K-2.  Build structures of all kinds.

“Turtles and Toads, session 1” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 3-5.  Participate in field trips to gather turtles, toads, frogs and snakes.

“Robotics/Coaching” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 6-8.  Students must be accompanied by a significant adult or coach interested in learning about robotics.    

June 27-July 1

“Our Earth” from 9 a.m.-noon for grades K-2.  Investigate the Earth’s surface features.

“Bridge Building” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 3-5.  Bridge designing, building and testing.

“Simple Machines with Robotics” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 4-6.  Learn about the work of simple machines with LEGO Robotics.

“Turtles and Toads for Big Kids” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 6-8.  Participate in field trips to gather turtles, toads, frogs and snakes.

July 11-15

“Constructing Toys” from 9 a.m.-noon for grades K-2.  Building toys and scientific concepts.

“Crazy Chemistry” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 3-5.  Investigate reactions, polymers and food chemistry.

“Turtles and Toads, session 2” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 4-6.

“Robotics” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 5-8.  Build robots with LEGO Mindset.

July 18-22

“Mammals” from 1-4 p.m. for grades K-1.  Investigate the uniqueness of mammals.

“All Things Wild” from 9 a.m.-noon for grades 2-4.  Investigate wildlife and what affects them.

“Turtles and Toads, session 3” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 3-5. 

“Rocketry” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 6-8.  Design, build and test rockets.

July 25-29

“Puzzles and How Things Work” from 9 a.m.-noon for grades K-2.  Explore how simple machines make work easier. 

“Natural Disasters” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 3-5.  Investigate the causes of natural weather disasters. 

“Roller Coaster Physics” from 1-4 p.m. for grades 6-8.  Explore forces of roller coasters.

            To enroll, contact the Seaborg Center at 227-2002.  Registration is by phone only; no email, fax or answering machine registrations will be taken.  Withdrawal from any of these sessions must take place by June 3 for refunds, at which date the Seaborg Center reserves the right to cancel sessions with insufficient enrollment.
