PORNOGRAPHY DEBATE AT NMU

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will host a pornography debate between adult film star Ron Jeremy and anti-pornography crusader Susan Cole at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, in Vandament Arena.

Jeremy, one of pornography’s most prolific male stars, started out as a high school special education teacher in New York City in the ‘70s. After a girlfriend submitted his photo for publication in Playgirl’s “boy next door” section, fan letters and offers from pornography producers poured in. Jeremy jumped at the opportunity to be a star. He has appeared in more than 1,000 hardcore films and on several talk shows.

Susan Cole is an author, playwright and senior entertainment and books editor for Canada’s NOW magazine.  She has been actively involved with the anti-pornography movement since the late ‘70s and has written a book titled Pornography and the Sex Crisis, which is a required text in women's studies courses across the country.  She has a history of voicing her opinion, having debated multiple times with Screw Magazine publisher Al Goldstein and right-wing Christian idealogue Michael Coren.

Sponsored by Platform Personalities, the debate is $1 for NMU students and $5 for the general public.  Tickets are available at all NMU E-Z ticket locations.  For more information, call 227-1771.
