NMU STUDENT SELECTED TO ATTEND EVENT IN WASHINGTON D.C.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – Darcy Daggy of Evart, Mich., was selected to attend the 3rd annual National Wildlife FederationÂ’s Women for Sustainable Development Initiative in Washington D.C. in January.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Each year, 28 college women from the United States and two from Mexico are invited to the event after an essay and phone interview process.  Daggy was selected from a pool of 100 applicants and was also the sole representative of a Michigan college or university.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚   She is now required to coordinate an event pertaining to sustainable development, for which she was chosen to write and produce “The Gaia Monologues.”  Based on the popular off-Broadway play “The Vagina Monologues,” DaggyÂ’s monologues will deal with the economic, environmental and social concerns of sustainable development.

Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  “Overall, I had a very enlightening and refreshing experience at the conference” said Daggy, a junior at NMU.  “I am very excited to put together a great event on campus that will hopefully become an annual program.”
