STAGED READING OF MEXICAN PLAY TO BE HELD

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – The Mexican historical theater class at Northern Michigan University will hold a staged reading of "Quinto Sol (Fifth Sun)" in Spanish with English subtitles at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, in Jamrich 102.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  "Quinto Sol" was written by Mexican playwright Francisco de Hoyos. The play is about the encounter between the Aztecs and Spaniards in 16th century Mexico. It features famous historical characters such as the Spanish conqueror Hernán Cortés; Aztec emperors Moctezuma (Montezuma) and Cuauhtémoc; and la Malinche, the Native American woman who served as translator between the two cultures.

The play has been performed many times over a period of many years to thousands of spectators in Mexico. The public is invited to attend this free event.
