BIOLOGY SEMINAR DISCUSSES AVIAN INFLUENZA

MARQUETTE – Dr. Ruben Donis of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta will present a seminar titled “A Growing Pandemic Risk from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Virus.” The presentation is scheduled for 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, in the Mead Auditorium in the West Science Building at Northern Michigan University.

            Donis is the chief of the Molecular Genetics Division of the Influenza Branch of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Avian influenza viruses infect birds, but some strains can infect humans.

            The public is invited to attend this free event, which is part of a seminar series sponsored by the NMU department of biology.
