National “Make a Difference Day” will take place on Saturday, Oct. 23.  Local volunteers will help area residents with leaf raking, outdoor maintenance and other chores.  The effort is being coordinated by the Northern Michigan University Volunteer Center, which reports that 850 individuals will donate their time and services.

These individuals will be separated into 78 groups, 70 of which are composed of NMU students.  The volunteers will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the NMU University Center Peter White Lounge for breakfast and then leave for their assigned places (specific times at each site are still to be determined).

For more information, contact the NMU Volunteer Center at 227-2466 or Kristi Evans at 227-2720.
