NMU ANNOUNCES HOMECOMING EVENTS

MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University will celebrate Homecoming 2004 Monday, Oct. 11, through Saturday, Oct. 16.  This year’s theme is “Digging Up the Past.” 

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Student activities include a scavenger hunt, a comedy hypnotist, the homecoming king and queen competition and a Black Student Union dance party titled “Remember the Times.”

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Homecoming events for the general public will be held as follows:

Friday, Oct. 15

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Homecoming parade, 5:30 p.m.  The parade begins at the Superior Dome parking lot on Pine Street, proceeds down Fair, Third and Hewitt Streets and returns down Front Street to Fair.  Participation is open to student organizations, sports teams and alumni.  The categories that will be judged are:  decorated car, spirit/marching units and floats.

 

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Great Lakes Rooms.  Six new members will be inducted into the NMU Sports Hall of Fame.  Social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 and the program at 8:30.  Tickets are $17.50 per person.  Reservations can be made by calling 1-877-GRAD NMU.

 

Saturday, Oct. 16

 

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Wellness Run, 10 a.m., Berry Events Center parking lot.  Individuals and families of all ages and athletic ranges are invited to participate.  There is a registration fee of $10 per person and $50 for groups of eight or more, and all proceeds go Marquette General HospitalÂ’s Specialty Clinic.

 

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  President Les WongÂ’s Investiture, 3:30-5 p.m., Vandament Arena.  At this ceremony, Les Wong will be officially inducted as NMUÂ’s thirteenth president.

 

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Block Party, 5-7 p.m., parking lot of the Superior Dome.  It will include food, games, possible sky divers, student organization information tables, and the Lambda Jam hosted by Lambda Chi Alpha.

 

·Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Homecoming Football Game, 7 p.m., Superior Dome.  NMU will battle Ferris State University.  There will be a special tribute to 100 years of NMU football and the 2004 alumni award winners will be recognized.
