NMU STUDENT WINS SCHOLARSHIP TO STUDY IN COSTA RICA

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University student Nick Zinis has been named a recipient of the Gilman Scholarship to study for a year in San Jose, Costa Rica. Zinis is an international studies and Spanish junior from Marquette.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  The $5,000 scholarship award is sponsored by the U.S. State DepartmentÂ’s state bureau of educational and cultural affairs, and is part of a congressionally funded program.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Zinis will be studying issues related to justice, human rights and development in Latin America at the International Center for Sustainable Human Development through a Costa Rican university.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  “I feel very fortunate to have this scholarship and to be able to study in Costa Rica,” Zinis said. 

Zinis adds that as part of the scholarship programÂ’s requirements, he will give presentations about his experience upon his return to NMU.
