C. J. CHENIER AND RED HOT LOUISIANA BAND TO PERFORM

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – C. J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will perform in the next Northern Michigan University Performing Arts Series event at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the Great Lakes Rooms of the University Center.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Chenier and the band play zydeco music. Zydeco is music from southern Louisiana that combines French dance melodies, Caribbean music, and the blues. Chenier has been playing with the Red Hot Louisiana Band since 1978, when his father was in the band. Chenier inherited his fatherÂ’s accordion and the band in 1987. The group has released five albums, the latest of which is Step It Up!

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Advance tickets for the performance are $6 for all students, $14 for Northern Michigan University faculty and staff and $15 for the general public. Tickets at the door are $8 for all students, $16 for NMU faculty and staff and $17 for the general public.
