MARQUETTE – “Islam and the West” is the title of an upcoming program offered by the Northern Center for Lifelong Learning. A panel of Northern Michigan University professors will present a discussion of current Middle East issues and how they affect the West. It is an opportunity to broaden and deepen one’s understanding of what has become a vital world subject.

The program is scheduled from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in 101 Jamrich Hall. There is no charge to attend and no advance registration is required.

Robert Kulisheck of the NMU political science department will serve as moderator for the discussion. Panelists include Mohey Mowafy, a native of Egypt and professor of health, physical education and recreation; Aura Syed, a native of Pakistan and professor of political science with a specialty in political and economic development; and Keith Kendall, a history professor who specializes in Islam and Arab history.
