MARQUETTE – Northern Michigan University’s faculty union – the American Association of University Professors – has voted to ratify a new three-year contract. The agreement will now be brought to the NMU Board of Trustees for final approval at its Dec. 11-12 meeting. 

The final outcome of Thursday eveningÂ’s vote was 145-51 in favor of the proposal. AAUP represents 276 faculty members at Northern.

Contract language regarding compensation includes across-the-board salary increases of 0.75 percent for the current year, effective Jan. 1, 2004; 1 percent the second year; and 3.25 percent in 2005-06.

 In the latter two years of the contract, faculty would also be eligible for a base salary bonus of 0.25 percent for every 1 percent increase in student credit hours, up to a maximum of 0.75 percent per year.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  Benefit changes include optical, which would increase from a single-person plan to a two-person plan, and a free parking pass.
