HOUSE RECEIVES INAUGURAL MCTM AWARD

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  MARQUETTE – Peggy House, a professor in the mathematics and computer science department at Northern Michigan University, has been selected as the first recipient of the Michigan Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MCTM) Outstanding Contributions to Mathematics Education Award.

 Â Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚ Ã‚  The award was initiated to honor a mathematics educator in Michigan who has made significant contributions to the field for a number of years. House was honored at the 54th annual MCTM conference in Lansing Oct. 16.

House was the director of the Seaborg Center at NMU from 1993-2003. She is currently the series editor for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Navigation books. Navigations will produce 34 books and accompanying CDs to assist teachers in putting the CouncilÂ’s principles and standards into practice in the classroom.

She has also contributed to numerous math books, journal articles, research and evaluation reports, and has made more than 230 mathematics presentations domestically and abroad.
